Extra Curricular, Volunteer, More

Because of my secondary teaching experience, I’m in a great position to build on other's intellectual curiosity, creativity, and attitude towards learning. I tend to go above and beyond with my assignments, trying to get them in as early as possible and often overdoing them; for instance, if you ask several questions, I make sure to thoroughly answer every one of them, usually with a full paragraph. Because of this, my scores last semester were almost all 100% or above.

Admirable personal qualities examples:

Leadership skills:  I look for opportunities to reach out to others and lead. For example, my cousin mentioned a group looking for leaders for their beta program called Ivy Girls Academy. I searched the group on the web and contacted the founder, Jessi. We connected and I formed a chapter in my area. This entailed teaching young women skills like how to be a leader, self defense, and service projects (how to find them and how to lead in carrying them to fruition). This was a year long project that culminated in a full program, now underway.

Service: The only way to be part of the human race is through serving others. Otherwise you are merely existing and not living or moving. I have initiated and helped complete many service opportunities in the community and the nation. We have put easy to prepare food packets together for kids to take home over the weekend in areas where they may not have food, except for school breakfast and lunch (community pantry). Our group provided over 900 meals.

Compassion: I heard of someone who had a truck that wanted to fill it for hurricane relief so I headed up the effort, advertising for him to find supplies to fill his semi and tracking down suppliers and helpers, as well as donating vans full of camping supplies, school supplies, easy to prepare food, clothing, blankets, and more personally. I also regularly visit a nursing home to visit, bring pets and babies for the residents to enjoy. We sing and perform for them as well.

Entrepreneurial: Our local mall holds a fair to teach children how to run a business that I have helped with for the two years since the program started. I have helped kids put together 8 booths and helped them to learn how to run them (which they do alone). In addition, I have been in charge of fundraising for Broadway Bound, a theater trip the students are going on this summer. I have contacted businesses about sponsorship and put together selling opportunities for the students to raise funds, such as Off  Broadway tickets (SLC), Little Caesars, selling button pins of the schools’ productions, and more.

Create Talent: I have volunteered hundreds of hours per production for the elementary, junior high and high school theater productions. I have been the costume matron, in charge of costuming 93 little kids, and sewn or put together elaborate costumes for the older kids. We have created sets for Little Mermaid and Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty and more for these three schools.

Community: I have been the republican county delegate for the last two years, attending meetings, conventions, and voting. This year I was in charge of running our local caucus meeting in March. This involved setting up the location, registration, running the meeting, finding delegates (inviting and following up on invitations to attend and run for office) and presidency, lots of forms, and follow up for conventions.
